Fulton County celebrates 100 years of Cooperative Extension

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- On Tuesday, Apr. 29, residents can join Fulton County Cooperative Extension as they celebrate 100 years of life-long learning made possible by the signing of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, which established the national agency.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fulton County Government Center located at 141 Pryor Street, SE in Downtown Atlanta.

The public event at the Fulton County Government Center will feature special guest speakers, live music, the nationally recognized Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Market and a “butterfly release” to signify 100 years of pollinating information into the lives of Fulton County residents.

For 100 years, the Smith-Lever Act has stimulated innovative research and vital educational programs for youth and adults through progressive information delivery systems that improved lives and shaped a nation.  One of the authors of the Smith-Lever Act was Senator Hoke Smith, a Fulton County resident who also served as Georgia Governor.
