Westlake Dance Team wins big at Annual Battle of the Dance Lines competition

ATLANTA – The Westlake Lion’s Mane Attraction Dance Team came away with the top prize at the 2011 Dance with Jazz “Annual Battle of the Dance Lines”. Westlake High School won seven of the nine awards at the competition. The dance team went home with the following awards: Best Showmanship, Most Creative, Best Technique, Best Costume, Best Dance, Best Stands and 1st place overall.

Over the past four years, the dance program at Westlake High School has grown, considerably, in size and notoriety, under the direction of Dance Department Director and Dance Team Coach Rae Ransom Coleman.

The LMA dance team competes three times per year and currently holds the 2nd place state title in Jazz dance and the 4th place state title in Hip-Hop.  They have also been featured in the music video “Thing Called Us,” the new single by Atlanta’s own Hamilton Park.

Tri-Cities High School Department of Drama presents “The Amen Corner” 11/17-11/19

East Point -  (submitted by Valerie Bell Smith) Tri-Cities High School Department of Drama presents “The Amen Corner”, the first dramatic play by the now much-celebrated African-American novelist, essayist, and playwright James Baldwin.  It was written during the 1950s, first performed on the professional stage in 1965, and first published in 1968.

 

“The Amen Corner” will be presented at 7 p.m., November 17 - 19, 2011 in the Viola Turner Theater on the campus of Tri Cities High School.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
