EAST POINT, Ga. – A deal to sell part of Fort McPherson to media mogul Tyler Perry was unanimously approved on Friday.
The Civilian Authority was tasked with redeveloping the shuttered Army post. The board said it was the best deal they could find and believe it will help the community.
Perry plans to build a movie studio on the 330 acres. The remaining 145 acres will become a mixed-use development, including housing, retail, historic preservation and green space.
State Sen. Vincent Fort called the sale unconstitutional. He said that Perry was getting the land at a 60 percent discount.
