Want to Run in Atlanta's Half Marathon this Thanksgiving? Train with a Coach Now

Atlanta, GA-- For those runners who will be running in the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving morning, Coach Will Dillard, along with Fleet Feet Sports Atlanta, will have a training program designed specifically for intermediate and veteran runners.

An informational meeting and sign up will be at Fleet Feet Sports Atlanta on Sunday, September 12th at 3:00 p.m., and group runs begin Saturday, September 18th.

The cost of the program is $99.00 and will include the following: Ten Saturday group runs from various locations with optional Wednesday training runs beginning October 6th, a detailed written schedule, seminars on injury prevention and nutrition, access to Coach Will at the runs and by email for training questions, weekly email training tips, a long sleeve technical tee for race day, and socks and other goodies from program sponsors.

2 Teens Jailed after East Point MARTA Attack

Atlanta, GA-- On Tuesday, 19 year old college student Joshua Murray spoke about a beating he received after getting off the MARTA bus at the East Point station.  2 Teens are behind bars and police are looking for 3 more accused of beating the teenager outside the Marta stop.

MARTA police said that Murray was repeatedly punched, kicked, knocked down to the ground and bleeding when officers arrived.  2 of the suspects were arrested and MARTA police say that the investigation continues.

Atlanta Board of Education Approves the Knowledge is Power Program and its New Charter School

Atlanta, GA-- KIPP,which stands for Knowledge is Power Program will be opening its fifth public charter school in Atlanta in 2011.  Although it is Kipp's fifth school, KIPP Atlanta Collegiate will be its first high school among its repertoire of middle schools.

All of our readers have probably seen KIPP Strive that was opened in the West End in 2009, and continues to grow 1 grade level every year.

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month

Today in the U.S., there are more than 86 million registered organ, eye, and tissue donors who have made the decision to improve and even give life to others. In Georgia, 3,487,019 individuals are registered organ donors. However, more than 100,000 individuals still die each year awaiting a life-saving organ. Some of the reasons for this disparity lie in the complexities of the qualifications required to be a transplant donor. Not every designated donor is eligible to donate organs at the time of death. There are three types of donation that can occur: organ, tissue, and corneal donation.
